The M.A. Programme, started in 2012, is of four semester duration. The programme seeks to equip students with knowledge of analytical frameworks and empirical methodologies required for the study of contemporary issues in Economics with specific relevance to development. The hallmark of the programme is a balance between theory and application. Successful MA candidates join a diverse research community comprising faculty, research scholars and visiting scholars. With a judicious mix of training in economic theory, quantitative methods and analytical skills necessary to interpret development problems, the programme prepares graduate students for careers in academia, government, journalism, the corporate sector and consulting. The SAARC scholarship for MA students, launched in 2016-17 provides five scholarships to students from SAARC countries that enrol in the MA programme. The SAARC Scholarship is made possible by the generous funding of the State government, which enables our M A programme to go international.
Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with at least 50 percent of marks under 10+2+3 pattern. Candidates belonging to SC. ST and Persons with Disability (PWD) are eligible irrespective of the percentage of marks in the qualifying degree. Those who are appearing for their final examination may also apply.
Admission: Through the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET). Candidates seeking admission to the MA program are required to apply online for CUET(PG) on the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The applicants have to opt for Centre for Development Studies (CDS) during their application to CUET (PG) to be considered for MA admissions in CDS. Following the announcement of the CUET (PG) results by the NTA, CDS will invite applications for the MA in Applied Economics programme. Candidates aspiring to join the program must apply separately to CDS after the release of our admission procedure. The candidates who meet the admission criteria set by CDS will be considered for further shortlisting.
