Eight-Day Workshop on Public Finance, Tax Reform, and GST in India: Design, Implementation, and Impacts

March 22–29, 2026

The Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram, is organising an eight-day intensive Workshop on Public finance and tax reform in India, with a primary focus on the Goods and Services Tax (GST), from March 22 to March 29, 2026.

The programme is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of GST as a central element of India’s public finance system, covering issues related to tax design, implementation, compliance, socio-economic impacts, state finances, and fiscal federalism. It seeks to bridge analytical perspectives with practical policy concerns.
The workshop will culminate in a two-day International Conference on “Socio-Economic Impacts of GST in India” (March 28–29, 2026). Participants in the workshop will attend and participate in the conference as part of the programme. The conference will be a platform facilitating interaction among policy makers, academicians, field officials, and other stakeholders including practitioners.
