Call for Applications
The Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram invites applications from research scholars of Indian universities and colleges and early career professionals to participate in its annual workshop on “Methods and Approaches to Research on Migration” which will be conducted at the Centre between November 16 and 20, 2026. Those who have completed post graduate studies and are preparing to undertake research in the area of migration may also apply.
The workshop is conducted as part of the activities of the state government‑sponsored Research Programme on International Migration from Kerala (RPIMK). It will introduce participants to diverse research methods used to study labour migration and population movements within and across national borders. The lectures will focus on qualitative and quantitative methods of research in association with research problems, data sources and analytical frameworks.
Seeking to acknowledge both the usefulness and limitations of different approaches in migration research, the workshop will introduce participants to the use of secondary data (from the Census and NSSO) and primary data [from the Kerala Migration Survey (KMS), a CDS Village Study and the ongoing survey on return and reintegration of migrants]; it will feature lectures that demonstrate the use of policy and textual material and draw upon interdisciplinary method.
Participation will be limited to 25 candidates, ensuring a balanced mix of scholars and practitioners. The lectures will be conducted in person, and in-person attendance is mandatory.
