Teaching Innovations Programme in Economics (TIPE-2023)

Professor K.N. Raj, the founding father of CDS, was a builder of institutions and a visionary who strived to improve the quality of teaching and research in economics in Kerala and elsewhere in the country. The KN Raj Teaching and Fellowship Programme aims to improve the curriculum and teaching of Economics in Colleges and University Departments across India, particularly in Kerala. This is in response to a felt need to improve the quality of economics education at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Teaching Innovations Programme in Economics (TIPE) is a component of the K N Raj Teaching and Fellowship Programme at Centre for Development Studies (CDS) based a generous grant made available by the Government of Kerala. TIPE aims to strengthen the economics education by providing week long intensive training on specific basic courses.
TIPE – Programme Structure:
The two week course would consist of taught sessions and interactive workshops on specific topics. Four broad topics would be covered in the course; Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics and Issues in Indian Economy. The scheduled dates for the topics are as follows.
Week 1 – February 20th -24th Week 2 – February 27th – March 3rd
Forenoon: Microeconomics Forenoon: Econometrics
Afternoon: Macroeconomics Afternoon: Indian Economy
Target Clientele:
The programme welcomes Economics teachers from colleges and university departments across Kerala state. Preference will be given to younger and women teachers. Those who have participated in the TIPE programmes conducted in 2020, 2021 and 2022 need not apply.
Maximum number:
Maximum intake is 20 in an in-person mode.

Course Fee and other facilities:
There would be no course fee for the programme.
Coordination and Course Faculty:
The programme is coordinated by Prof. Vinoj Abraham. The core faculty is drawn from the CDS teaching and research staff. Prominent academicians from other academic institutions will complement them.
Duty Leave:
The Department of Higher Education of the Government of Kerala is being approached for securing duty leave for lecturers from Kerala State for attending the programme.
Course Completion Certificate:
Participants who successfully complete the programme will be given a course completion certificate of the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum.
