CDS Workshop on ‘Database on Indian Economy’

Centre for Development Studies announces the second edition of its workshop on ‘Database on Indian economy’. The workshop is funded by Indian Council for Social Science Research. The statistical system in India has been revamped in the past few years. This workshop at CDS would introduce participants to databases on India pertaining to economic performance such as growth and development, financial indicators, infrastructure, institutions, regional and geographical information. The focus of the lectures would be to understand: Important databases and their sources; Database and debates relevant to India; Concepts and definitions of relevant indicators using these databases; Scope of the data (spatial, temporal and representativeness); Issues and limitations of these databases such as reliability, comparability across other databases for similar indicators and possibilities of merging different datasets. The course this year would also provide hands-on-training on data extraction and basic statistics to participants. The course is targeted primarily at Economics research students and young faculty members of India. CDS students are welcome. The total intake in a batch would be 30. Attendance is compulsory throughout the programme.
Course structure:
This a short term full time residential course for ten days. The course would be conducted offline from December 5th to 16th 2022. Lectures and demonstrations would be conducted mainly by CDS faculty members.
Course Fee:
There would be no course fee.
Travel and Accommodation:
Boarding and Lodging would be provided on Campus, free of cost to the participants. Travel costs would be reimbursed on producing tickets as per CDS rules (AC 3 tier/ bus) and through a shortest possible route.

Selection Procedure:
Preference would be given to research scholars and young faculty. Selection would be based on the performance of the scholars in their research such as publications, presentations etc. and the suitability of the programme to their ongoing and future research. As the programme is on available data sources, researchers depending purely on primary sources may not be encouraged. The selected candidates will be informed through email by second week of November and selection list will be published on the CDS website (www.cds.edu)
Certificate:
On successful completion of the programme CDS would be issuing a course completion certificate.
