Visit of the British Members of Parliament

A delegation of British Members of Parliament (MPs) accompanied by the Mr Bharat Joshi, British Deputy High Commissioner at Chennai, visited CDS on Tuesday, 13th February 2018.

The delegation from the UK comprised of  Mr Craig Whittaker MP, Conservative Party, Calder Valley Constituency, and Delegation Leader; Ms Angela Rayner, Labour Party, Ashton-under-Lyne Constituency; Mr Daniel Zeichner MP, Labour Party, Cambridge Constituency; Mr Steve Reed OBE MP, Labour Party, Croydon North Constituency and CPA Delegation Secretary, Mr Robert Harper.

They were accompanied by Mr Bharat Joshi, British Deputy High Commissioner (BDHC) Chennai, Mr Rudy Fernandez, Head, Public Affairs, BDHC Chennai and Mr Sijoy Thomas, Regional Adviser Kerala, BDHC Chennai.

Professor Sunil Mani, Director welcomed the delegation and made a presentation on the research and teaching activities of the Centre. Dr Praveena Kodoth gave a presentation on the migration of Women domestic workers from Kerala to the Middle East. This was followed by a good deal of interaction and discussion and the MP from Cambridge Constituency, Mr Daniel Zeichner expressed his keenness to forge collaboration between the Centre for South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge and the CDS. This collaboration was initiated with the visit of Dr Edward Andersen from Cambridge, who had spent time at the CDS recently.
